I have gained enough rank with both the Empire and Federation to have all ships available to me.
I've spent most of my money gaining those ranks and buying new ships. I now have the following ships:
Sidewinder named Wishful Thinking CES-03
Diamondback Explorer named Star Seeker CES-02
Asp Explorer named Nebula Asp CES-01
Anaconda named The Canadian Express CFS-03
Imperial Cutter named Bluenose CLY-01
Type-9 Heavy named Universal Joint CFS-01
Orca named White Dwarf CPS-01
Mamba named Red Racer CRS-01
Python named Elliot Lake CFS-02
Alliance Crusader named Desert Hawk CCS-01
It is time to earn some more money. I plan to do this by visiting the "east" end of the galaxy. When you open the galaxy map, it's always oriented towards the opposite side from where human civilization is. I assume that's "galactic north"; not that there is such a thing but we humans love creating points of reference where there aren't any.
Notes on my ship: I'm going with the Nebula Asp, my best exploration ship. It has a jump range of 63.9 LY. It is outfitted with a 5A Frame Shift Drive, a Guardian FSD Booster, a fuel scoop, SRV, Auto-Field Maintenance Unit (AFMU) and a surface mapper.
When I'm making a trip like this, I select a star about the distance I want to cover for the day and let the computer calculate the route. It's set to plot the fastest route, meaning, it will choose jumps close to my maximum jump range. Yes, this means I skip past a lot of stars. But that's okay. I wouldn't live long enough to scan the 430+ billion stars in the Milky Way. Once I scan a system and scoop my fuel, there are some rules that determine if I do anything more.
1) If the system has 10 bodies or less, I will do a detail scan on all bodies.
2) If the system has more than 10 bodies, I look for "big money worlds" and only scan those. The BMW's are ammonia, water and earth-like.
3) I always do a surface mapping on the BMW's.
4) If the system has more than 10 bodies and no BMW's, I make my next jump.
An ammonia world, scanned, mapped and with first to discover and first to map bonuses plus efficiency bonus can fetch 300,000+ credits. Water worlds can be anywhere from 400,000 to 1,000,000 credits. Earth-like are almost always over 1 million credits. I've mapped one or two that exceeded 3 million credits.
This is how I earned just over 900 million credits on my "galactic west" trip earlier this year.
The other goal of this trip is to find a sector which has yet to be explored, then spend my time there trying to scan/map every system in that sector. I'm hoping the Eok Prau sector will provide that experience for me.
This image shows Shinrarta Dezhra, my starting point.
This shows my destination, Eock Prau OV-V b16-0.
I started late in the day, so I didn't go far this first day. I jumped over to Praea Euq RR-N d6-99.
I chose the next closest world, Praea Euq RR-N d6-99 2 d, for my camp site.
It's a fairly plain little rock.
